MAMA'S COUNTRY RECORD COLLECTION

Mama's Country Record Collection Opens on the Magnus Theatre Outdoor Stage

Magnus Theatre kicks off its’ 2023-2024 Season with a summer musical, Mama's Country Record Collection, written and directed by Thom Currie, on the Magnus Theatre Outdoor Stage. The show runs from July 6-29.

“Mama’s Country Record Collection has been a hit at theatres across Canada since it first opened in 2010. This all-new production, reimagined for the Magnus in The Park Outdoor Theatre, features Danny Johnson and Samantha Piper," Currie says. “It’s a big show, on par with anything we'd have on the main stage - two actors, a full band with a full set, sound and lighting. We are giving audiences a full theatre experience in our cozy and inviting outdoor theatre. "

Mama's Country Record Collection stars Samantha Piper as Caitlin, who is helping her dad, played by longtime Magnus favorite Danny Johnson, to clean out her late mother's immense collection of country records. Inspired by the music they find, the two easily slip into song as the show explores over 50 of the biggest country hits from the 1960s and 70s. Currie says audiences, whether country fans or not, will be familiar with the music in the show. "These are some of the most memorable songs from that era. Audiences can’t help but sing along."

Sharing the stage with Piper and Johnson are some of the biggest names in the Thunder Bay music scene. Rob Jardine, Dan Zadkovich and Kevin Palmer are the band.

Mama's Country Record Collection is under the saddlespan tent on the Magnus in the Park Outdoor stage from July 6th-29th with evening and matinee performances. There will be a Pay What You Want performance on Sunday, July 9th at 2:00pm and a Relaxed Performance on Sunday, July 23 at 2:00pm.

Tickets are available on Magnus Theatre’s website at magnustheatre.com or through the Magnus Theatre Box Office by phone at 807.345.5552.
